IS E-learning WORTH SPENDING SO MUCH?

No.  I believe that Education companies are taking advantage of a serious phobia in the minds of Indian parents – there’s so much competition that any efforts will be taken to advance their children’s education.  Tuition was the first step – students complained that their teachers in school were not properly instructing and so the coaching industry came to being. The coaching industry has boomed and some students have benefited as well. Now, you have e-learning companies like Byju’s that are taking creating an online learning portal or mobile app with videos and mock tests.

Both industries tuition and e-learning promise one main thing – better academic performance through personalized learning for your child.  But this really isn’t the case.  I’ve been to tuition – the coach covers material so fast I can’t keep up.  And Byju’s doesn’t really ever answer all of my questions.  Byju’s does not provide micro-learning opportunities where I can search for my problem topics and just focus on those.  They provide their own curriculum and a student is only allowed to go through that sequence.  Both of these options are truly missing the component of education that is really needed – personalized learning and holistic development.

Plus, both tuition and Byju’s are very expensive.  As a student, I never needed any of these.  I learned how to study the old-fashioned way: I read the theory and then practised question/answers.  The more time I spent practising, the easier it got to solve the problems.

There are pros and cons to this type of studying – it focuses on specific problems and not the big picture.  I could not take those skills and use them to solve real-world problems, meaning I had not learned the material well enough to actually apply the knowledge.  This is what a quality education should accomplish and this is what I have found in PIE, The Complete Learning App by Praadis Institute of Education.

PIE provides truly personalised learning with access to all subjects across all curriculum (state, national, international).  This M-learning platform also features capability-adaptive AI that puts forward exercises focused on individual strengths and weaknesses. Also, the design of the material is created for high engagement and enjoyment – learning through gameplay is a new concept in India but is recognized the world over for its positive impacts on intrinsic motivation. A student that is excited about studying is far more inquisitive than a student who is just going through the motions of reading and solving problems.  And game educational design can be adopted for any material and any age student.  Holistic development of character and intellect are far more important than mastery in any single subject and this development does not happen by simply throwing money at it.  It takes effort and the use of an effective instructional design that captures interest as well as providing quality learning material. Don’t just take my word for it, visit www.praadisedu.com for more information regarding this budget-friendly but yet still highly-effective best learning app for kids.

Is a Bagless Education Better than a Traditional Education?

The overload on books by private schools is almost double of what is required by NCERT. But with PIE there is no need for books because all the content of the textbook is inside a mobile application on a smartphone that fits in your hand. Students don't learn more just because they have more books! The huge number of textbooks required by schools is ridiculous and has no impact in a student’s actual education. It just seems as though children will learn through osmosis – just put the book to your head and it sinks in. They point of an education is to mold a child into a critical thinker and well-rounded adult – not turn a child into an encyclopedia. Facts show that with the rise in private schools in India that the requirement of school books has also increased. All this creates undue pressure on students. Students schoolbags are getting heavier year after year. For a KG student, the requirement is to purchase around 10 – 12 books that need to be brought to and from schoo...
